THE VERY BEGINNING OF AN OAK FOREST FOR MY GREAT GRANDDAUGHTER

A sense of loss has grown in me as natural, ancient woodlands and forests all over the world continue to be destroyed.

I began to think about my Great Granddaughter – an imaginary figure at the moment like a fairy story figure. I sometimes feel a deep sadness when I think of her. I want her to have her forests.

I have started to grow oaks for her, I planted acorns and watched in awe as tiny little oaks emerged from the earth, so fragile, their detail only visible through my camera lens. I now have 36 images of these oaks just after they emerged from the earth, less than half an inch high, each of them unique and exquisitely beautiful. Each image is 10 x 7. inches.

Some of these are now planted along with other native trees on our two acres.
